MAUGHMER~LOWE BRIGMAN~MCFADYEN HOME PLACE
Jacob MAUGHMER came from the "Old Country on a big ship." Family lore designates the nationality as Dutch, German, or Pennsylvania Dutch. Professional genealogists have been unable to trace the name indicating that it was radically modified. "Decendants of Jacob Maughmer" was written by Willis Marshall Maughmer and published in October, 1976 by G.F. and Florence M. Maughmer of Escondido, CA. It is my intent to continue the history, correct errors when possible, and pursue the mystery of the "Old Country".My pursuit of the BRIGMAN-MCFADYEN history is a memorial to my father, Ralph Franklin Brigman, Jr (1921-1988). He was the son of Nannie McFadyen (1900-1956) and Ralph Franklin Brigman (1893-1964). The family lived in the Bladen, Cumberland, Scotland, and Richmond County areas of North Carolina.Little is known about the early years of the Brigman-McFadyen clan. It is believed that they descended from the Guinea Blue Family, descendants of the Clan of MacMillan of the Isle of Jura, Scotland. Four brother, all missionaries, come from Scotland and settled around Mount Gilead, NC (date unknown). They were Archie McFadyen, Colin (Colen) McFadyen, Findly (Findley) McFadyen, and Neil McFadyen. The McFadyen decendants include Daniel Blue McFadyen (b. 1854), Corvena McFadyen (b. 1884), John McFadyen (b. 1886), Ellen McFadyen (b. 1882), Mary McFadyen (b. 1891), Christine McFadyen (b. 1892), Willie McFadyen (b. 1896), and Nannie McFadyen (b. 1900). Any information will be appreciated and I am willing to share any information I have available. |
