| My great grandfather was Robert(Bob)Atchley he married Emma Parker. They had ten children. One was my grandfather Curtis Owen Atchley who was born in 1910 or 1911. The only thing that we know about Bob is from what my grandfather told us. He said that Bob went to Birmingham,AL to find work and was killed while working for the City of Birmingham. Two of my grandfather's siblings went to identify his body but could not afford to bring the body back for proper burial. The story is,that the city buried him but no one knows where. I have been unable to find any record of his death. I would appreciate any information that anyone has. As of May 2003,I have now been able to find Robert Atchley (spelled Achly) in the 1900 census living in Claysville, Marshall Co., Alabama. According to census he was born in 1874. Emma was born in 1881 and a son Harvey was born in 1897. In the 1920 census they were living in Blount County, AL. Listed were Robert H. age 49, Emma 41, Ernest 19, W.L. 13, Alonzo 12, Owen 8, D. 6, Edward 5, Ethel ?/12. Those not listed are Mattie Lou, Harvey and Raliegh. In 1930, Morgan County, Lacey's Spring, Alabama, Emma P. 50 (widowed), Ernest 29, Owen 17, Ed 14, and Ethel 10 are listed. |
