Find Family
Edmund Brindley was born on a ship traveling from England to America around 1820 and moved to Pennsylvania some time before 1850. We beleive Edmund's parents and possible siblings lived in Ohio but we don't know for sure. Edmund shows up in the 1850 census in Mercer County in Western Pennsylvania. He had six children: Mary, William Thomas, Robert G., John, Lydia and Edmund Jr. Mary and Robert G. we have not been able to track down yet, but William T. and John lived next to each other and started their families at the turn of the century. Lydia married a newspaperman from Chicago whose last name was Murry. We have not been able to track down his line. Edmund Jr. did not have any children and lived in Youngstown Ohio.

John and his family stayed in Pennsylvania near Wheatland. William T. took his family to California some time after the 1910 census. Most of John's descendents have since moved on to various East Coast states such as Virginia, New York and Florida. William T.'s family is mostly on the on the West Coast.

This Brindley family was a hardworking family who worked in the steel mills and in military service. Edmund was a Union soldier during the Cival War. He died from his wounds some time after the war but before 1870. His wife, Ratcheal, also died during those years and the six children became orphans. The state of Pennsylvania established schools for the orhans of its soldiers killed during the Cival War. John, Lydia and Edmund Jr. attended Mercer School, which was one of those orphan homes. William T., we believe followed his father's footsteps in the 1870's and joined the Union cavalry and fought during the Indian Wars. He received an important medal for his service. William's sons also joined the U.S. Army during World War 1. Both John's and William T.'s families have prospered and have many descendants.

We will be featuring different members of the Brindley family that all started from Edmund and Ratcheal from time to time. Keep posted for the changes. We think Edmund had a sister named Isabella who was born in Ohio and that may be where Edmund's parents and siblings lived. She apparently came to Pennsylvania to take care of the Edmund's orphaned children around 1870. If you know of any Ohio Brindleys in the mid 1800's looking for a connection to a brother named Edmund...we may be the one. Please contact me!!!
