Hello folks!
My sister Alison and I are back from our second Oregon trip. It was very successful. We spent much of our time in Albany, plotting where our pioneer ancestors lived and visiting cemeteries. We also spent some time in the Lebanon Genealogical Library and Linn County Courthouse. When we were in Salem we spent a day at the Oregon Archives. It is a beautiful building and a great place to do research. One wall is actually a curved window which makes you feel like you are in open space, not cooped up in a library. We are still organizing our notes and hope to get pictures and maps to those who are interested.
A reunion for Haley relatives is planned at Judy Depew's house for the first weekend in August 2005 in Camino California (on Hwy 50 near Placerville). Please mark it on your calendar! It would be great to have representation for each of the Haley siblings: Mary, Ben, Ted, Naomi, Ruth, Billie and Herb. We also hope to have a booklet of information and biographical sketches out by Christmas 2005. Anyone who is interested please email me and I will pass the word along.
Through the help of our distant Haley cousins in Virginia I think we have identified the old picture that was labeled "Grandma Haley" It appears to be Eliza(beth) Melton 1817-1880. Please take a moment and view her picture.
Anyone who wonders where the Haley Holler website moved to it is http://www.velocitywebs.com/haleyholler/
I have put together another CD of BRIGGS-DARTT pictures and genealogy information. My cousin Karen Briggs Morgan shared a lot of documents and pictures. I also have a combined CD with the contents of both. Anyone who would like a copy of BriggsDartt 2 or the combined BriggsDartt CD please email me.
Note to Briggs cousins regarding our ancestor Linden Hildreth: There is a family story which you may have heard that Linden participated in the gold rush, left his family in the early 1850's and never returned. This story could still be true, but he has been spotted on the 1860 census in Lake Mills, Wisconsin and on the 1870 census in Sylvania, Ohio, near the Michigan border. It will be interesting to find out what eventually happened to him. To be continued....
For those of you with BIRDWELL ancestors, check out Rose Birdwell's site at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~birdtracks/
I have put together a family tree on this site for my daughter. It only goes six generations from her and has errors. This is due to the way the InterneTree selects from the alternate facts. I don't know the way around the problems but here is a list of corrections (sorry, it's the best I can do!):
John Potempa died 1906 Mary Kornaus died 1954 Mary Kolnicki should be Mary Skotnicka; she died May 25, 1925 Josefa Stintak should be Josefa Kintop William Archer Briggs born 1854 Emma Louise Peck born 1854 William Coleman Hildreth born 1845 Mary McCann born 1848 Edward Harvey Schuyler Dartt born 1824 Lucretia Brooks born 1840 LoElla Hildreth born 1882 Caroline S Foote (not Adora) born 1837, died 1879 Sarah Nuella Mae Haworth aka Ella Mae Haworth died in 1963 not 1962 Samuel Melbourne Burnett born 1858 Margaret Jane Brown born 1863
I am working on several lines at once. Surnames include Alkire, Birdwell, Black, Briggs, Brooks, Brown, Burnett, Bussey, Chandler, Dartt, Fleenor, Foote, Fritts, Haley, Haworth, Hildreth, McCann, Melton, Nickerson, Parrish, Peck, Powell, Propst, Shelton and Whicker.
I am also interested in these Polish American names: Bartosiewicz (sometimes shortened to Barto), Gapski, Jasionek, Kintop, Kornaus, Kot, Novak, Oman, Potempa, Skotnicki, Sroka, Wierzchowski and Wojciechowski.

We found the Family History Library in our wanderings and a kind lady took our photo! Unfortunately we didn't have time to hunt for ancestors but we did wander around inside a bit. We now know how it is laid out and NEXT time we will come there with a plan!
