| The Briggs family are all firmly placed in Halifax Yorkshire. The furthest I have got back is to Jerimiah Briggs born 1798 he married Mary Tunnicliffe and they had 5 children Hannah Samual Ellen Eliza and Mary.Jerimiah had a butchers shop on Market street in Halifax town centre.Samual Briggs carried the name forward, he married Ellen Morris, I can only trace 1 child John Henry Briggs born 1855. Samual carried on the butcher trade for a while and then became a stonemason. John Henry was a bit of a black sheep and spent some time in the workhouse. He married Mary Anne Brier They had 5 children Alfred Ellen Martha Adelaide and John Henry. In 1901 John Henry senior was working as a road sweeper. Martha Briggs was my Grandmother ,she had 3 children to Harold Dyson but they never married thus I carry the name of Briggs. Harold was killed in the great war. |
