Notes for William Leggett: From J.K. Brown, Jr. Genealogy Report June 2000
He was a Huguenot immigrant from France via England to Philadelphia, who moved with the colony to the Anson County, North Carolina area (near the current Lilesville), and then, after fighting in the Seven Years War, into Marlboro County, settling near McColl. He had three sons, William, Absolom and James, and is said to have given the site for the Beaverdam Baptist Church (McColl Baptist Church). He preached at the first Catfish Baptist Church (Old Marion County) in 1768.
