Notes for George Brown:
George's parents and the date of his birth are unknown but there is good evidence that he had brothers Richard and Daniel who remained in England and possibly a brother John who came to Hampton, NH in 1635. He was married in a parish church at which time they made a an offering of three shillings. In 1618 - 19 Marie ABBOTT of Salisbury, a widow, left three shillings apiece to Richard, Daniel, and George BROWN; mentions grandchildren by the name of DOVE; and directs that she be buried in St. Edmund's church. Georges will, made at New Sarum in the Countye of Wilts, is dated August 22, 1633. He appoints Mr. John DOVE and Mr. Francis DOVE as the overseers of his will. Mr. Francis DOVE, twice mayor of city, was one of the wardens of St. Edmund's. After George's death about 1633 Christian Brown and her family went with fellow parishoners, who venured forth from old Salisbury in 1638, to found a New Salisbury in the "New World" away from the persecution of Archbishop Laud. Widow Christian died in 1641, many of the family continued to live in Essex County, MA for many generations.
