OHN CHRISTIAN STURTZ:
John is buried in Charles Evens Cemetery in Reading, Pa. He was laid to rest on April 17, 1908. His name is spelled STIRTZ on his stone and on the cemetery documents. He is buried in a single grave in section 55 Lot No. 1R 30G. His grave is along the road and almost hidden by a large tree at the road. John was a veteran of the Spanish American War. He served in Co. G the 9th Regiment infantry PA Volunteers. He served as a private and then as a corporal from June 25 1898 to Oct. 29, 1898. It is believed that he and Kate lived in the Lycoming County area, possibly Williamsport and had several children there before living in the Reading area.On March 4th 1885 Kate divorced John and went to live with her oldest son George Lewis Sturtz. John moved in with his daughter Kate Elizabeth and son-in-law William H. Prutzman. In 1898 his address was given as 639 N. 10th Street, Reading, Pa. According to his military record he was listed as a laborer, Height 5'4", light complexion, Brown hair and grey eyes.

ATHRYN HEBNER:
Kathryn was known as Kate and this is how her name appears on the cemetery documents. Kate was a deaf mute. She was laid to rest on May 11, 1906 at the age of 77 years. She is in Charles Evans Cemetery section Y lot NO. 329 The following are buried in the same lot with her. Bessie Stirtz a daughter of George and Ellen d. 1902, George L. Stirtz, son of Kate d.1912, Child of Elmer Stirtz, a grandson of Kate d. 1913 and Ellen M Stirtz,her daughter-in-law d. 1921. The lot owner at the time of purchase by George, her son was Theodore C. Auman. According to cemetery records she is buried between Bessie and George. There is a space here but no stone. Cemetery records show the Child of Elmer buried in the same grave as Kate. It is believed that her oldest son George Lewis Sturtz changed the spelling of the name to STIRTZ, hence the spelling on the stones and the cemetery documents.
