Descendants of Jimmy Cullen

Generation No. 2

2. ZACHRIAH BOATINGHOUSE2 CULLEN (JIMMY1) was born 1858, and died 1927. He married NANCY ELLEN CURRY, daughter of ANDREW CURRY and MARY HILL.

Notes for NANCY ELLEN CURRY:
Her grandfather met his death from the bite of a rabid wolf. In those days, the
people also became rabid after nine days. This kinsman lived chained in a shed from eighth day until his death.

She also remembered bits about the Civil War. She was 7 to 11 years old. She told of barn raising where there was much sorrow and prayer for they hear
cannon firing to the south of them.

One time when talking about families divided North against South , she said,
"Don't believe it was rebellion within the family." There was a gang of what
we call guerillas today but they were call "Copperheads" and "Skalawags" who receuited soldiers by force for both North and South. They hung her bother by his thumbs until he was willing to go to fight in the southern army. The rest of the Curry family that fought at all fought in Northern army. Her father hid when those bands came throught as did many of the family men.

As told by Aunt Lennie (Brown) Martell
