Notes for SAMUEL P. TAPP:
Killed by the Malisha (Militia)
During the 1850's there was a bitter conflict between the antislavery forces and prosalvery forces in Missouri. Every year the confusion increased until in 1863, a band of armed antislavery men entered the county seat of Vernon county, Mo., burned the courthouse and murdered many people. Among the proslavery group was Samuel. The men entered and sacked the house and asked Samuel to come out in the yard. He asked Malissa to give him his hat. They then shot him in the head. Samantha saw the murder and went out and picked up his brains. They took the cattle, horses, and hogs and burned the barn. Two of the horses returned home.
