Notes for Lynwood Bruce Brown:
I and my sister Connie grew up in a house our mom and dad built on 5 acres of land given to them by my grandfather Victor Smith. (see his notes also) From kindergarten till about the 4th or 5th grades Connie and I walked 2 and 1/2 miles each way to school, then the district got A (like in ONE) school bus and we sure did enjoy the comfort of the warm ride to and from school. The school we went to was The Hicks School on what then was known as M78 the highway to Lansing from Battle Creek. There were 10 grades K thru 9th. One of the more interesting things to happen to us was on the way home before we got the bus us and the other kids that walked helped deliver a baby calf. It was a very bad snow storm so we helped it and Mom up to the barn where it could be warm. If it really was cold and all of us walkers got numb we would stop at any house along the way and warm up before going on home. It was that kind of time when every one knew each other and got along.
