The search for the father of William George WHITE, my 3rd great-grandfather, has been a long one. William's mother, Mary STRAHAN/STRAHIN/STRAWN was thought to have been a widow, as she is listed on the 1830 Greene Twp, Greene County PA census as head of house with no adult male listed in her family. In 1999 information was found that a Washington WHITE and Mary WHITE were grated a divorce in 1831-32 in Greene County, PA. Washington did not appear for the court hearing and Mary was granted the divorce. Mary's children from her first marriage were: William George, Mary Ann, Alexander H. and Goren O. White. Shortly after the divorce Mary married a neighbor and widower, John C. HUGGINS and they moved across the PA/VA border to Preston County, VA/WV and later lived in Monongalia County VA/WV. |
