Notes for Samuel Crocker:
Settled in New London in 1700 in area known as West Farms.[Crocker laura hines.FTW]
New London Vital Statistics Compilation, Vol. 1, p. 16, Samuel Crocker ye sonn of Thomas and Rachel, born ye 23rd July, 1676.Samuel was baptized there on 10 Sep 1676.
In the "History of Norwich" by Frances Caulkins page 229 it is noted - "SamuelCrocker settled at West Farms about 1700 and was one of the selectman in 1722.He was probably son of Thomas of New London and born at that place in 1677. He had four children: Samuel, John, Jabez and Hannah".No mention of the last four daughters.
Samuel removed from New London to Norwich where he was married, and settled in that part of Norwich (about 1700) that became the town of Franklin in 1786.This area was known as West Farms, as it pertained to Norwich, and not to be confused with the West Farms associated with New London, which was the Waterford-Niantic area. Here he helped found the "West Farms Congregational Church" about 1700. He was outstanding as a church leader, and often served as a representative of his church in the General Assembly. He was often chosen as the moderator at church meetings, and served on many important committees. The records of this church are in the custody of the Town Clerk of Franklin, Ct.These records show that Mrs. Samuel Crocker and Miss Martha Wolcott (sisters) were admitted to the Franklin Church in November 1719. Samuel Crocker was a very highly respected man in his day and generation. He became quite well-to-do, and was a "Select Man" in 1722. (One of a board of officers to manage municipal affairs). His homestead was on "Little Lebanon Hill," later named "Crocker Hill" in his honor. It retains this name to the present day.
Samuel's descendants seem to far outnumber his brothers and they carried the flag for the Thomas Crocker family in "settling the West".They travelled via New Hampshire, Vermont, and New York, to Ohio, Indiana, Michigan Iowa, Wisconsin and beyond.
The graves of Samuel and Hannah Crocker have never been found. Perhaps they may be located in some remote corner of this large hill, or they may sleep in the first cemetery at Franklin. They may even rest in the ancient"Plain Cemetery" where hundreds of stones are no longer decipherable, and where many more have sunk out of sight. There are records of many purchases and sales of land, for, and between Samuel Crocker and his family and others. An excerpt from one of these reads as follows... "Know all people to whom these presents shall or may come, Greetings: Know ye that I, Samuel Crocker of Norwich, in the County of New London, and the Colony of Connecticut in New England, for diverse good causes and considerations thereunto me moving; but more especially for and in consideration of the good will, love and affection, which I have and do bear unto my loving and well beloved daughter, Zerviah Hastings, and the wife of Joseph Hastings of saidNorwich, have transferred, give, grant, etc. unto my said daughter, Zerviah Hastings, her heirs and assigns forever, Two (2) certain tracts or parcels of land, lying and being in the Township of Norwich aforesaid, and one of which is a home lot or farm I now live on, containing by estimation 60 acres, be it more or less - etc."(History of LucyCrocker - By Murphy - p.35)

Notes for Jabez Crocker: [Crocker laura hines.FTW] Jabez Crocker was born at Norwich, Ct. on 31 Aug 1702 and he was baptized in 1709, and died about 1780.Experience Fox, his second wife, was born at Groton, Ct. on 7 Apr 1719. There is no record of her death, she may have remarried after the death of Jabez. At a meeting of the Norwich West Society Church (now Franklin Congregational Church) on Dec. 23, 1735, Jabez Crocker and Job Palmer were chosen collectors. Jabez and his family lived in the section of Norwich that became the town of Bozrah in 1786.He was a successful farmer. In addition to the land granted to him by his father he purchased about a dozen additional parcels.Apparently he invested money with Alexander Pygan Adams and William Adams Jr., who were engaged in trade but became insolvent in 1773, leaving Jabez as the creditor. However, he also had been on the opposite side of the judicial system, being the defendant in a series of eight County Court cases in actions of debt from 1729 to 1741. Jesse Brown of Norwich petitioned the County court in April, 1780 to confirm the purchase of two pieces of land that he had bought from Jabez Crocker, who had suddenly died before the deeds could be recorded. The estate of Jabez was probated Dec. 5, 1780, and distributed to his widow, each of seven sons and four daughters of their heirs. The estate of Jabez Crocker was probated in 1780. (Connecticut Probate records, Norwich District #2471).A division of the estate was dated 5 Dec 1780, and names the following:the eldest son, Jabez; second son, Asa; third son, Thomas;fourth son, Ezekiel, as administrator; fifth son, James, of Lebanon, N.H.; sixth son, Samuel; and youngest son, David; the heirs of eldest daughter, Hannah Fox, late of Windham, deceased; second daughter, Ruth, the wife of Saben Durkee;third daughter, Martha, the wife of Simeon Abell; and the youngest daughter Rhoda, the wife of Gideon Baker ofLebanon,New Hampshire. He also mentions Experience as hiswife. There were a number of marriages between the Crocker and Fox families both in America and in England. The Foxfamily is also ancient.
