Bennie's WW1 Draft Registration Card was filled out when he was 21 and gave DOB as March, 1896. Bennie stated that he was born in Greeleyville, SC and had no trade or occupation. He also stated that he was single. The reason given for draft exemption that he was a cripple, mind effected.
The 1900 Census for Hope, Williamsburg, SC finds Benjamin living with his parents Butler and Josephine Browder on a farm.
In the 1910 Census for hope, Williamsburg, SC shows Josie as a 45 year old widow living on a farm she owns. Living with her are two of her sons: Caswell, 16 and Benjamin, 14.
The 1920 Census for Hope, Williamsburg, SC has Josie as a 53 year old widow living on her farm with her 23 year old son Bennie. Though they live on the farm their was no indication given in census that they were working the farm. Bennie is still shown as single. Neither Josie or Bennie can read or write.
The 1930 Census for Hope, Williamsburg, SC lists Josie as a 65 year old widow living with her son Bennie age 36. They are living on a farm that they rent but neither of them is shown as working.
