The BROWN family history begins with the BRITTAIN Family, who according to tradition go back to Sir William Brittain, Alfred The Great and The House Of Orange. Nancy Brittain descends from this family. She married David G. Brown abt 1822-1824, in Dubois Co, Indiana. Nancy had a brother, Smith Brittain who married Sarah Brown, David's sister, abt 1834 in Dubois Co, Indiana. David was born 1790-1800 & Sarah was born 1806, both in Kentucky. Isaac was an Early American Entrepreneur. He was active buying & selling land. Operated a 1600 acrea plantation, built the beginning of a "Turnpike" (1802) that connected people west of the Blue Ridge Mountains to the port of Charleston, SC and Georgia. He operated a ferry as part of this route across the Nolachucky & built a large grist mill on Cove Creek.

William Baker, son of Isaac, married Christina Girdner, daughter of Michael Girdner & granddaughter of David Girdner. Both
