 Includes NotesNotes for Mary Isabelle Mitchell:
In a book of published poems by Mary Isabelle Mitchell (John William Mitchell's grandaughter) one of the poems written was, "Acrostic--to Stonewall Jackson."
It says at the bottom of the page of this particular poem that Mrs. Bent and Gen. Jackson were intimate friends in early life.

Rev. Mansfield McWhorter in a letter dated March 2, 1904 said of her: "I knew (Mary Isabelle) well. Was often with her at Sunday school and church. She was a woman of more than ordinary intellect and rare piety."

Acrostic -- to Stonewall Jackson
Each sentence starts out with the first letter of
Thomas Jonathan Jackson's
name (with an A on the last line??) Maybe to match the title: Acrostic?

There is a tree that blooms on earth
How bright its charms,how great its worth;
One special flower plucked from this tree
Makes mortal man a deity.
And now this tree of priceless worth
Spreads its giant branches o'er the earth,
Joining by some mysterious hand
Our lower home with the heavenly land.
Nor nations far, nor isle,nor sea
Are beyond the reach of this magic tree;
Though many millions from off this tree
Have gathered fruit, it still is free.
And the more we give we have the more,
No use can ever exhaust the store.
Joy, peace , and truth, and liberty
Are the golden fruits of this mystic tree.
Creation admits of its power divine;
Kings princes and monarchs kneeled at its shrine:
Sublime in its nature, exalted its fame,
On the rich and the poor its light falls the same.
Now tell me the name of this mystical tree,
And the flowers and the fruit are awarded to thee.
