The Brown's of Council Bluffs, IA and Our AncestorsUpdated January 9, 2012 | |
| This research has been done in local IL libraries, archives, historical societies, county courthouses, and the cemeteries where our many ancestors were laid so lovingly to rest. Kristin and I have stood on the original farms that our grandfathers toiled on. Nothing was taken for granted or entered into these pages without due attention given the requirements of sound genealogical proof though the careful study of the many land, probate and vital records that our ancestors left behind. I thank all those who have been so helpful in piecing together the lives and times of our patriotic grandparents who arrived on these shores in the early 1700's, fell deeply in love with this country and "fought all through the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812" to defend the independence of their new Republic. My thanks go out to our uncle Harold Ezekiel Brown of Cheyenne Wy., our 3rd cousin Dorine Richardson Archer of Iowa, our 1st cousin Patricia O'Neill of Council Bluffs IA, our 2nd cousin from the Detroit area Sherry Hamlock, my research companion and traveling partner who got together with me to put her boots on the ground in the cemeteries and courthouses of IL to find out the truth about our family. Thanks also to my friend Nancy Piper for her many hours of hard work in hosting the Marshall Co IL Genealogy Trails web site; what a wonderful source of information! Thank you all so much! Please share this site with all our children so that they may gain the full appreciation and pride for the many efforts and sacrifices their ancestors have made for this Country. Check back often as I will be posting more pictures of our travels and the much awaited results of The Brown DNA Study. Please contact me with any additions or corrections. Thanks, William Brown "I will give you independence forever! It is a good day; It is a great day!" Spoken by John Adams from his death bed on July 4th, 1826. December 2009 Updates: I spent a day with my 94yo Uncle Harold E. Brown in July 2009 and he is still very sharp and mobile. He shared lots of family stories and pictures which I have added to our ancestry.com site. I also returned the 37 marker DNA test packet to Family Tree DNA and should have the results back by 03/01/2010. I will post them on this site. January 2010 Update: The Family Tree DNA results are starting to come in and so far we have an exact 25 marker match with a Lloyd Nelson Brown and a Farrell Drew Brown who were both descendants of James Brown b 10 Mar 1787 in Charlton, Worcester Co, Massachusetts, USA. Stay tuned for more information as the deep Clade DNA test results come in over the next several weeks. The Family Tree DNA testing facility has classified us as Haplogroup I2b1, a rather small group that descends from Scandinavian Vikings that landed in the British Isles over a thousand years ago! March 2010 Update: Our Family Tree DNA Deep Clade Results are finally completed. We have been confirmed as Haplogroup I2b1 and Deep Clade group I-M223 which is of Viking Scandinavian descent. This ties in very nicely with James and Farrell Brown's line which has been traced back to a Abraham Browne who emigrated to the Boston, Mass area in 1630. Other Brown researchers have traced Abraham's line back to John Browne, a very wealthy woolen merchant who lived in the 1300's in Stamford, England. Stamford is a part of the old Danelaw District of England that was occupied by the Vikings for a over a hundred years after the Great Danish Army landed in East Anglia in the year 865. All of this will be sourced and proven to the best of my ability over the next several years. It isn't enough to compile your pedigree, you must prove your pedigree. 01/09/2012 New website coming soon from TNG ver8 |
