My maternal family has been a source of many questions for my siblings and myself. My grandfather, Jonathan Boehnlein, left his wife and my mother when she was a baby and was never heard from again. They were living in Hot Springs, South Dakota at the time and it was the early 1920's. No one seems to know where he went or what happened to him. The Boehnlien's were originally from Bavaria and my ancestors were Nicholas Boehnlein from the Kingdon of Bavaria and Genofera Albert from Baden Baden Germany.

My grandmother remarried a good hearted man, Simon Lindsey, but he was a drifter so they moved every couple of years. My grandmother came from a family of good standing. Her father, Senator John F. Parks, was well thought of in the state of South Dakota, introduced the legislation for Custer State Park, was a big game hunter and seemingly wealthy. However when he died his wife found that he actually had many debts and she had to sell most everything to keep afloat.

My Mother who lives with me now still wonders what ever happened to her father and I continue to search every avenue possible. I hope to be able to find out something before she dies.

I am also working on my paternal side which includes Vittetoes, Magorians, and McNabbs but do have considerable more information on them so don't have the urgency that I do with the Boehnline/Parks side.

This ancestral journey is new to me and has been very interesting. I have learned more about my father's family than I thought I could as I felt fairly well informed about them.

I am excited about this quest into the past.
