This nobleman being made a knight of the Bath with Prince Edward and several others, attended him in the expedition made, at that time, into Scotland. He was also summoned as a peer to the coronation of Edward II. His lordship Robert married Egeline, daughter of Hugh de Courtenay and Eleanor Le Despencer, and sister of Hugh, Earl of Devon, and dying in 1322, was succeeded by his son, Robert de Scales, 3rd baron. His lordship attained his majority in the 7th Edward III [1334], and in two years afterwards, we find him in the expedition made into Scotland, in the retinue of William de Ufford. He was again in Scotland the ensuing year, and in the 12th of the same reign [1339] he attended the king intoFlanders. From this period until the 30th Edward [1357], he was almost unremittingly engaged in France. His lordship married Katherine, daughter of Robert de Ufford, sister and co-heir of William de Ufford, Earl ofSuffolk, and had issue, Roger, his successor; Margaret, m.
