      1545. Hester Ward, born Abt. 1633 in Weathersfield (Hartford Cty) Connecticut; died Abt. 1664 in Fairfield (Fairfield County), Connecticut. She was the daughter of 3090. Andrew Ward and 3091. Hester Sherman.

year estimated from birth year of oldest child; identity of first wife established through deed signed 2/27/1661 wherein Esther Burr wife of Jehu conveyed her interest in the property left her first husband Joseph Boosey by his father James for 64 Pounds; that her maiden name was Ward and she a daughter of Andrew and Hester Sherman Ward is suggested by the 1665 will of Hester Ward which left 10 shillings each to Hester and Daniel Burr
2nd in 1666 to Elizabeth Prudden (Prudden Letters as published in New England Hist. and Gen. Register Jan. 1930)

Wife given ten pounds and estate she had upon marriage, and an additional ten pounds. Mentions sons Daniel, Peter, Samuel underage, and daughters Elizabeth, Sarah, Joanna, And Abigail, all under 18 and a daughter Esther who had already received herportion, as well as granddaughter Mary Wakeman. Brothers       Nathaniel and John were overseers.

Commisioner for Fairfield 1664, 1668 to 1687, 1689-92.
Commisioner for Indians in 1680.     

Captain in King Phillip's War. Leutenant in 1673. Member of war councils in 1675 and 1676.
     
Property: Colonial grant of 200 acres, May 1673.

Purchased brother John's interest in father's homelot in 1671 and bought a neighboring property in 1673 and lived in the family homestead until his death in 1692.

      Sailed from England to Dorchester, MA in 1635. Moved to Windsor, CT and from there to Fairfield, CT in 1649. Moved to Westchester, NY area in 1664 where he and James Eustis were granted land for themselves and associates on the Hutchinson River. Sale was confirmed by Gov. Nichols to Philip Pinckney, William Eustis, and William Hayden 8/9/1664. Area known as Salisbury Plain. Settlement became known as Eastchester and is now called Mount Vernon. Possibly came from Tatterset, Norfolk, England in the company of Reverend John Barham. Arrived in Fairfield about 1650 where he received a grant of land 2/14/1666-7. He had already left Fairfield in 1664 to be among the first ten propreitors of Eastchester, NY; so, this land was sold in part to Nathan Gold 2/13/1669-70, and in part to James Beers.

Will probated 1/9/1688-9 names sons John, William, and Thomas who got lands in Eastchester. His unmarried daughters ELIZABETH, Jean, Ann, and Deborah got 10 Pounds each. Married daughters got 12 pence. (Jacobus)
Witness to will of GEORGE HULL and again to the will of George Hull's second wife Sarah Phippen Hull, both of whom referred to his wife Jane as cousin. (Jacobus)
