marriage: 11/19/1653 to Cornelius Hull in Fairfield (Pedigrees of Colonial Clergy)

death: Hull family tradition says she was killed by Indians while washing       clothes at an unknown date. Other sources say she survived her husband and married Phillip Theal, dying in 1696. She is not mentioned in the 1695 will of Cornelius Hull suggesting she was dead at that time.

Children of Cornelius Hull and Rebecca Jones are:
774 i.   Cornelius Hull, born Abt. 1655 in Fairfield (Fairfield County), Connecticut; died 5/7/1740 in Greenfield (Fairfield County), Connecticut; married Sarah Sanford Abt. 1685 in Fairfield (Fairfield County), Connecticut.

Sarah Walker. He married 1551. Rebecca Whelpley, (AKA Rebecca Wiekle) 4/25/1665 in Fairfield (Fairfield County), Connecticut.

1551. Rebecca Whelpley, (AKA Rebecca Wiekle), born Abt. 1645; died Aft. 1683. She was the daughter of 3102. Henry Whelpley and 3103. Mrs. Henry Whelpley.

Notes for Ezekial Sanford:

birth: 1637 in MIlford, CT (Donald Lines Jacobus; Old Familes of Fairfield)

marriage; 4/25/1665 to Rebecca Wiekle in Fairfield (Fairfield records)
Identification of Rebecca Wiekle remains in question, but she does not appear to have been a daughter of James or Henry Wakelee as some researchers have claimed. Wiekle could be a misreading of Whelpley, however, and Henry Whelpley was living in Fairfield at the time and has association with Cornelius Hull whose sons Cornelius and Theophilus married daughters of Ezekial and Rebecca.

death: 1683 in Fairfield (Jacobus)
inventory taken 1683 names widow, sons Ezekial and Thomas, and daughters       SARAH, Mary, Rebecca, Martha, and Elizabeth (Jacobus)

Notes for Rebecca Whelpley, (AKA Rebecca Wiekle):
Controversy exists over the proper identification of Ezekial Sanford's wife but the name Wiekle as his wife is called in his marriage record is a non-name, and the most likely candidate for is wife is Rebecca, daughter of Henry Whelpley, who had many associations and some relationship with the Sanford and Hull families. She has also been identified as a daughter of Henry or James Wakelee, but this seems unlikely, as the Wakelee family was not in Stratford at the time of Ezekial's marriage, and had no close association with the Sanford family or any related family.

Wiekle is probably a mistranliteration from the original record and probably was actually recorded as Whelple, the h then misread as an i and the lp as k.
