      1556. Joseph Hawley, born Abt. 1603 in Parwich (Derbyshire), England; died 5/20/1690 in Stratford (Fairfield County), Connecticut. He was the son of 3112. Samuel Hawley and 3113. Mrs. [Hawley]. He married 1557. Katherine Birdsey 5/20/1643 in Fairfield Co. CT.

      1557. Katherine Birdsey, born Abt. 1620 in England; died 6/25/1692 in Stratford (Fairfield County), Connecticut. She was the daughter of 3114. Edward Joseph Birdseye ? and 3115. Abigail Phebe Dayton ?.

BIRTH: 1603 (Elias S. Hawley; The Hawley Record; 1890)

MARRIAGE: 1646 to Katherine Birdsey in Stratford (Elizabeth Hawley Everett;       Hawley and Nason Ancestry...;1929)

      There is some question as to the identity of his wife. The only       provable fact is that her name was Katherine and that they were       married about 1646 in Stratford. Several researchers and             descendants state that she was Katherine Birdsey, daughter of       William Birdsey of New Haven and Wethersfield, and niece of       John Birdsey of Stratford.

Arrived in new Haven about 1638 but left shortly thereafter for Stratford, possibly as a show of support for brother-in-law Moses Wheeler who was banished from New Haven for kissing his wife, Joseph's sister Miriam, on a Sunday.

Took in STEPHEN BURRITT, who succeeded him as town recorder, as his apprentice about 1650.

      1558. Stephen Pierson, born Abt. 1645 in Suffolk County, England; died 5/14/1739 in Derby, (New Haven County), Connecticut. He married 1559. Mary Tomlinson Abt. 1665 in Milford, Connecticut.

      1559. Mary Tomlinson, born Abt. 1647 in Milford CT; died 9/25/1715 in Derby (New Haven County) Connecticut. She was the daughter of 3118. Henry Tomlinson and 3119. Alice [Tomlinson].

Notes for Stephen Pierson:
Arrived in New Haven in 1654 as an apprentice to Thomas Mulliner, a carpenter. Testified 6/30/1657 in case of slander when Mulliner claimed the pigs of ? Meeker were bewitched. In 1658 he appeared in probate court of New Haven to complain that Thomas Mulliner had not taught him the carpentry trade.
Original resident, along with EDWARD WOOSTER, of Derby, Conn. around 1666 where he had a homelot on meeting house hill.
Will dated 9/2/1733 does not mention a daughter DEBORAH, but no other Pierson family was in the area at the time; so, she is presumed to have been his daughter. She may not have mentioned in the will because she was well provided for after the death of her husband JOHN HAWLEY in 1729. Estate valued at 631 Pounds.
Died at age 94, leaving a second wife Esther.
