This Family page has been created in the hope that other family members around the world may read it and contact us so we can add them to our "FAMILY TREE".
My husbands side of the family (BUCHANAN} are all from Scotland, as is the case with my side (PRINGLE).
The following are just some of the family names we are looking for :-
ANDERSON, BOYLE, BUCHANAN, GOWDIE, LANG, PRINGLE.
We were married in Helensburgh, Dunbartonshire in April 1965. At the time of our wedding Drew (short for Andrew) was employed by Marconi as a Radio Officer in the Merchant Navy. During the first few months of married life Drew applied for a position with the Australian Department of Civil Aviation. His application was accepted and much to our surprise in October of the same year we found ourselves in Sydney, Australia.
After twelve months in Sydney we were transferred to Papua New Guinea where we lived for nine years, four years in Port Moresby and five years in Lae. It was a wonderful experience and we visited many places.
We returned to Australia in 1975, but this time to Sunny Queensland, Brisbane to be precise. By this time we had two sons, Cameron our eldest was born in Port Moresby and Robbie who was born in Helensburgh, Dunbartonshire during an extended vacation. (Holiday for Drew - hard work for me).
Our sons are now married with their own children, Robbie living here in Brisbane and Cameron in Sydney. Both doing well in their respective professions.
In 1986 we were transferred to Longreach in Central Queensland where we spent four memorable years and made many lasting friends. Unfortunately in 1990 the airport at Longreach where Drew was Officer In Charge became privatized and we once again returned to Brisbane.
In 1992 after 27 years with the Department of Civil Aviation, (which has changed it’s name many times since 1965), Drew retired. For the past seven years I have been teaching him the art of housekeeping and am happy to report he has become quite proficient.
Since the age of 16 I have experienced several occupations, (due to our numerous transfers), mainly in the cosmetics field.
When married I was employed by a Hairdressing Salon as a receptionist in Helensburgh.
During our stay in Sydney I worked in a large department store as a beauty consultant. In Papua New Guinea it was the local pharmacy which was also a sub-post office and bank. At this time I also owned a Hairdressing Salon.
In Brisbane prior to our transfer to Longreach I once again worked in a pharmacy and in Longreach itself I was employed by the local courier service. This entailed collecting freight from the airport and delivering it not just to the local residents, but to other towns such as Winton.
Since returning to Brisbane I have been employed by one of the oldest established department stores in the city as a French Fragrance consultant and I am currently Counter Manager with one of the most prestigious companies.
I have been trying to find new branches for our "TREE" on the internet but to date my efforts have proven fruitless. I know we have relatives living abroad but unfortunately no knowledge of their where abouts. We know James Buchanan emigrated to British Columbia shortly after 1900 but I’m afraid that is the extent of out information.
I would dearly love to find family members living overseas so please feel free to contact us if you think we can help each other.
