Notes for D
ANIEL CHESHIRE:
Daniel and Sallie (Sarah) came to Texas from Tennessee with members of Sallie's Rolston/Raulston family about 1849. They settled first in the Dimple/New Haven area north of Clarksville living there at least until 1857. Their first three children were born in Tennessee, the remainder, in Texas.

Daneil Cheshire farmed near the Halesboro Community, south of Rugby, north of Halesboro, Red River County, Texas on a 165 acres of land purchased from "Uncle Bob" Nix. Daniel's state and county taxes for the year 1857 were $1.20 - receipt dated May 17, 1858.

Daniel's parents, Zaceus and Catherine, were already farming in the area having come to Texas at or about the same time as Daniel.

Daniel served in the Confederate Army, stationed for a time at Corpus Christi, Texas. In 1865, as soon as he returned from the civil War, Daniel built a log house on the farm. The last four of his children were born there, including Robert Lee in 1870. Robert brought his bride, Susie, there in 1895, and all their children were born in the log house. They lived there until 1912-1914, and the children attended Halesboro school.

In 1912, Robert purchased land 3-1/2 miles west of Hagansport, Texas and built a house there, and they moved. Shortly afterward, Robert reportedly rented the house out and moved his family back to Red River County to the old log house for another two years. Then in 1914, they moved back to their Franklin County home and remained there for the rest of their lives.

The 1865 log house between Rugby and Halesboro was still standing in 1940, but its exact location is not presently known.
