The Buckle family are from Portmouth, Hampshire, U.K. John Edwin Buckle was a licenced publican who owned the Crown Inn, Wish Street, Portsmouth, in the late 19th century. John was married twice and from his second marriage there were five children. All lived locally in Portsmouth and the descendants from the five children still live locally. The Buckle name survives only through John Edwin Buckle's one son - Henry White Buckle. Henry, known as Harry, married Alice Dora Hazel on 6 August 1910. They set up home in Blackheath, Greenwich, London where Harry became a London Policeman. They had one son, William Henry Buckle, born 4 May 1914. When war broke out "Harry" went to sea and became a Leading Seaman on the "Good Hope". This ship was sunk on 1 November 1914 in The Falklands. William, therefore, had no father since he was 6 months old when his father "Harry" lost his life.
I am a descendant of William Henry Buckle. I have been tracing the Buckle family tree on and off for 25 years and am interested to hear from others with mutual interests.
I have traced the tree back to James Buckle and Susannah Ellis who married in Alverstoke, Gosport early in the 19th century.
Is there anyone who knows anything about the family so that mutual interests may be shared?
