The CLARKSON family starts with James CLARKSON b.1749 Blackley, Lancester, England, who arrived to America in 1776, settled in Essex Co VA, married Mary ADAMS. Their sons moved to Fluvanna Co. VA; then either to Missouri or western Virginia, now Preston County, WV. In 1893, the first
CLARKSON brother, Al (James Albert) arrived in Harding Co. SD. Brothers, sister, and cousins joined him in the early 1900.
The CLARKSON connection to the English CLARKSON in Blackley, Lancashire has been confirmed by a copy of a letter in a published book about one of the descendants -- the letter is from our James (the weaver in Essex Co VA) to his brother Joseph in Blackley, near Manchester, England dated July, 1805. What great news -- all thanks to new cousins from England!! The magic of the internet!!
