Obituary from the 1940, Wed., Feb. 21 - Independent Courier - Clarence, Shelby Co., MO: Former Shelbina Man Killed In Crash -- Delbert BUCKMAN, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Pius BUCKMAN of Shelbina, died Wednesday morning, February 14, from injuries received five hours earlier in a motorcycle wreck. The accident occurred while he was on duty as a member of the Long Beach police force. BUCKMAN was born on a farm southwest of Lakenan February 16, 1908, and would have been thirty-two years old on Friday following his death. Most of his boyhood was spent in Shelbina, where he was graduated from high school in 1926. He later attended the University of Missouri for two terms. He had lived in California for the past nine years and had been member of the police force in Long Beach for almost five years. Surviving relatives are his widow, Ann BOWER BUCKMAN and their two sons, John, aged three, and Charles eleven months; his parents Mr. and Mrs. W.P. BUCKMAN of Shelbina; two sisters and one brother, Mrs. Lottie CHICK of Kansas City, Mrs. Joseph JARBOE and A.D. BUCKMAN, both of St. Louis. Funeral and burial rites were held in Long Beach.
