Obituary from the Monday, September 19, 1983 Waterville Morning Sentinel [Kennebec Maine] **John Bucknam, Oakland--John L Bucknam, 69, died unexpectedly, Saturday evening in Canaan. He was born in Oakland, August 31, 1914, son of Oscar and Mary Garland Bucknam. He was employed by the Maine Central Railroad from 1935 to 1973 and was shop steward for the Brotherhood of Blacksmiths and Boilermakers. He was a member of the Getchell Street Baptist Church Get-U-All Baraca Bible Class, Waterville. He was a former member of Siloam Masonic Lodge, Fairfield. Surviving are his widow, Gladys Eastman Bucknam of Fairfield; five sons, John Jr. of Oakland, Robert of Clinton, Ronald, Steven, and David of Oakland; three daughters, Joyce, Helen, and Ellen, all of Oakland; one brother, Leighton of Oakland; one sister, Ellen Wheelock, of Oakland; 21 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two nephews. Funeral Service will be Tuesday, 10 am, at the Getchell Street Baptist church, Waterville. Friends may call today from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M., at the Wheeler Funeral Home, Church street, Oakland.

Obituary from "The Morning Sentinel" Waterville, Maine 12/29/1992--Gladys M. Bucknam, 74, died Monday morning at a Waterville nursing home following a long illness. She was born in Lewiston, Dec. 4, 1918, daughter of O. Roland and Myrtle (Stevens) Eastman. She attended Waterville High School. She was a member of Ernest A. Rutter Post, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. She was a member of the Getchell Street Baptist Church in Waterville, where she was an honorary deaconess, taught Sunday School, and Bible School. She helped start the Pioneer Girls and played the piano. Her husband, John L. Bucknam, died in 1983. Survivors include five sons, John Jr., Ronald, Steven and David, all of Oakland, and Robert of Clinton; three daughters, Joyce Pelletier, Helen Bridges and Ellen Weeks, all of Oakland; her stepmother, Ella Eastman of Waterville; three brothers, Robert Eastman of Fairfield, Walter Eastman of Casco and Donald Eastman of Baltimore, Md.; seven sisters, Helen Starbird of Auburn, Evelyn Maheu of Canaan, Rose Micue of Clinton, Phyllis Cory of Sidney, Florence Eames and Wilma Eastman, both of Waterville, and Roberta Brown of Terryville, Conn.; 21 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Friends may call from 7-9 P.M., Tuesday at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 20 Church St., Oakland. Funeral services will be held 1 P.M., Wednesday at the Getchell Street Baptist Church, Waterville. Wheelock, M. Ellen, 89, of Oakland died June 5 in Waterville.

OAKLAND -- M. Ellen Wheelock, 89, died Monday, June 5, 2006, at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Waterville.

She was born in Oakland on July 9, 1916, the daughter of Oscar and Mary (Garland) Bucknam. Ellen attended Oakland schools, graduating from Williams High School, class of 1933.

For a few years, she worked in the office of North Wayne Tool Company, but spent most of her life as a housewife and homemaker. She was a member of the Ernest A. Rutter Post VFW Auxiliary. Ellen enjoyed genealogy and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a lifelong resident of Oakland and enjoyed spending several winters in the Mount Dora, Fla., area.

She was predeceased by her husband, Walter Bion Wheelock; and two brothers, Leighton and John Bucknam.

Surviving are two sons, Walter "Perk" Wheelock and wife, Nancy, and James Wheelock and wife, Donna, all of Oakland; four grandchildren, David Wheelock of Sidney, Jeff Wheelock of Orlando, Fla., Julie Smith of Monmouth, and Diana Stafford and husband, Ken, of Cumberland; two great-grandchildren, Kevin and Kasey Smith of Monmouth; sisters-in-law, Jessie Lachance of Waterville and Frances Berry of Camden; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to visit from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, June 6, at Wheeler Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Oakland, where a funeral service will be held at noon on Wednesday. Burial will follow at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta.
