1 William BUFFORD Born: Bet. 1784 - 1785 in England Fact: William sailed from Dublin, Ireland aboard the ship Diligence, arriving at the port of New York on April 30, 1804. Occupation: Farmer / Saddler Immigration Record #257 lists William as William Berford, age 19, originally from England. In 1806 he owned 640 acres in Dover, Tennessee. January 21, 1810 he married Patsy Thornton, daughter of Yancy Thornton. October 2, 1810 he purchased an additional 52½ acres in Stewart County, Tennessee for the sum of $257. Died: June 1844 in Stewart County, Tennessee Burial: Dover Cemetery

. 2 Samuel Thornton BUFFORD Born: November 26, 1815 in Stewart County, Tennessee Fact: Samuel joined the Methodist Church in 1837, shortly after arriving in Collierville, Tennessee. Occupation: Sadler, owned leather and saddle shop He died in 1893; in his obituary, W.G. Hefley said he was a Methodist of the old type and looked with disapproval upon any innovation upon the time honored usages of Methodism, which to him was the scriptural way of worshiping God,"in spirit and in truth". In his last years he was probably afflicted with arthritis since Mr. Hefley alludes to his bent and helpless form. He died at the home of his daughter Martha. Died: December 11, 1893 in Union City, Obion County, Tennessee
