Written on stationery from the New Southern Hotel, Sixth and B Sts. [drawing of hotel] J.M. Anderson, Owner and Manager San Diego, Tuesday Dear Papa and Momma: We are certainly in our seventh heaven here at San Diego. I never saw such a grand place. The exhibits at the exposition grounds are just marvelous. [World’s Fair and Exposition was held May 29 - November 11, 1935 and February 12 - September 9, 1936. (377 days) at Balboa Park in San Diego.] And still they say it is nothing compared to San Francisco [World’s Fair, held in 1915]. We are going up there about Thursday. I suppose Papa has gone to Omaha. I rained a little here last night – but is bright this A.M. The hotel here is a dream. All the rooms have oscilating [sic] beds that fold up in the wall behind large mirrors. Rooms are all finished in swell style. We won’t be ready to come home by any means when the time comes. From what we know now we will be home by a week from this coming Saturday, Feb. 27. Last night we went to the Savoy theatre. It was just great. Mamma you ought to see the flowers here. I am writing this in the hotel parlor, and right off the parlor is the grandest roof garden. A garden about fifty feet from the ground. We get our eats at Cafeteria’s mostly. Talk about swell eats – we surely get them. You can get real swell things for 50˘. But of course money is nothing to us. Mamma I bought the grandest battenburg [sic] table cloth, for $3.95. It is a monstrous thing. I also got the pretty blue japanees [Japanese] things for curtains, and table cover. Also got some pretty pictures. We got to a movie show two or three times a day. Some swell shows. The parks here are just gorgeous. The weather here is hard on a person. It makes you so sleepy and no ambition. Just think before we hot here it had rained steady for three weeks, and the morning we came the sun was shining. Well Mama and Papa, I think about you in the evenings and even if I’m having a good time – I am not too busy to think of you folks. I supposed the boys are all right. Sam is anxious to hear how Carl is. We will be looking for mail at San Fran. Good – Bye With Love. Iola.
