| Surnames I am researching include: Atkins: Tn,Ms,La,Ar Hand:Ar Beall:Ms,Ar Parker:Ga,Ms,Ar Reddin:Tn,Ar Temple:Ky,Ms,Ar Trippe:Ms Wallace:Ga,Ms,Ar My main area of interest at this point is James Maston Atkins b. abt.1833 in Lowndes County Ms.James enlisted in the 3rd La. Regiment in 1861 in New Orleans,La. He was wounded twice, first at Wilson's Creek & more seriously at Pea Ridge.At Pea Ridge he got shot in the hip and the ball was never removed.He was paroled in Vicksburg in 1865. James married Lucinda (Norwood)? about 1867.Lucinda is was said to 1/2 Cherokee. It is said that she was found by and raised by a white couple (Norwoods) after the band of Indians she was with were killed. We have no idea where this occured,but they was in Ar. by 1869 as their oldest child was born in 1869 in Ar.James & Lucinda had the following children: Mary E. Atkins James Quitman Atkins Samuel A. Atkins Alfred F. Atkins Daniel Lucious (Dink) Atkins (my ggrandfather) Lucinda d before 1880 James is listed on the 1880 Bradley Co.Ar. census as a widower.December 16 1880 he married Mary Ann Weir. James & Mary had the following children: Rebbecca Atkins Walter Lee Atkins Myra Cordelia Atkins James applied for & recieved a Confederate pension in 1904.He died 10-05-1920. According to his pension application his father was born in Giles Co. Tn.and his name was also James Maston Atkins. Looking for any information on James parents or siblings. |
