Notes for Frederick Stephen Spaulding: Frederick received his schooling in North Leverett, MA. He came to Amherst at the age of fifteen and lived there the rest of his life. In early life he worked on a farm then became employed in a hat factory in Amherst, where he worked for three years. He then became a mason and was employed by a Mr. Blogett. He formed a partnership with Blogett and under the name of Blogett and Spaulding operated the business until 1924, when he bought out Blogett and carried on the business in his own name. He specialized in laying foundations, brick and plasterwork, and the laying of sidewalks. Much of the mason work in the now historic buildings in Amherst were done by Frederick Spaulding.
Frederick was a member of the finance committee of the town of Amherst for three years. He was a member of the Pacific Lodge, Free and Accepted Masons and a thirty-second degree Schttish Rite Mason. He was a member of the Amherst Business Men's Association, and was on the board of the Methodist Episcopal Church, a church which he helped build.
