Dear Mrs. Bureau:

May God love you for your kind letter and offerings! I do hope that you and George and can make it here this yeat for a Cana. Why not help the Kowacic's with their May 12 - 14 date. We have a fine retreatmaster coming from Detroit for this one. See if you can't get a few others from Marquette interested.

Your Uncle Ed died here in Garden while working on the Marygrove building. Now whether or not this was in the original construction or the remodeling, I don't know. But he was buried from St. John's. As far as we know here he was only married once. His wife was brought up by the Harvey's in Escanaba. She used to give music lessions here and was always a good Catholic. They had two daughters. One was married to a Ranguette from Fayette. She is a patient at present in Newberry. The other girl married a Popish from Manistique. As far as I know she is still living there. I remember meeting Mrs. Bureau after her husband's death. She seems to be a very fine person.

I hope this helps complete the family tree. Now please tell George to visit us this year. It would be wonderful to have you back.

Your greateful friend in Crrist,

Very Rev. R.J. Bassett, Rector

Dear Mrs. Bureau

I am not sure, but you may be the Mrs. Bureau who spoke to me at a Council of Catholic Women Meeting here in Marquette a few years ago. At that time we concluded that George's uncle who lived at Garden was also a relative of your husband's.

We have become interested in completing the Bureau family tree. All of George's family including uncles except one remained in the Marquette area and all the families were well known to each other. (except this one-Edward)

One uncle Edward, settled in Garden at an early age and died there when quite elderly. We have no information on who his wife was or what family he had. The aunts and uncles may have known this, but all the older Bureaus are now deceased so we must now obtain the information elsewhere.

We recently wrote Msgr. Bassett at Garden and he informed us that an Edward Bureau died in Garden while working on the Marygrove Retreat House. He had a wife and two daughters. We are quite certain this would have been a son of Edward B. as George's uncle Ed died about 1929 at Garden long before Fr. Bassett arrived there. Msgr. Bassett apparently knew the Mr. and Mrs. Bureau he speaks about, the wife teaches music and is still living.

Could this Mrs. Bureau be yourself?

We would very much appreciate it if you would write us giving what information you can on your part of the Bureau family. The rest of our information is fairly complete. If you should be interested in it, and we are all a part of the original family tree, we shall be happy to send you a copy when we get it compiled.

Sincerely,

Mr. and Mrs. George A. Bureau

Dear Mrs. Bureau:

I am the Mrs. Bureau you have in mind, but I have never attended a meeting to which you referred.

I know very little about Edward Bureau Sr. as he was quite elderly when we were married, and called the county clerk to verify the date of his death, which was July 17, 1921.

He was married twice, so only knew the second Mrs. Bureau. She was a widow, with grown and married children.

The first Mrs. Bureau passed away when my husband was seventeen years pld.

My Husband's (Edward, Jr.) death was caused by a heart attack, while working at Marygrove. Fr. Arnold Thompson was the pastor then.

Yes, I gave music lessons in Garden, but after my husband's death, Nov. 24, 1947 I returned to teaching. I taught in the Bark River-Harris School System, until my retirement last May.

Some of the older people in Garden told me there were eleven children in the Edward Bureau Sr. family, but only four lived to adulthood. A sister Jennie Mercure, my husband, Ed. Jr. Fred and William. I only knew Jennie, but her husband did not inform us at her death.

I am sorry I cannot give you more information about the Bureau family, as was from here.

My older daughter lives in Manistique, and the younger lives here, but I have an apartment and live alone.

I would appreciate a copy of the family tree, also happy to meet you, if you should come to Escanaba.

My phone number is st6-0499, so you could call me first.

Sincerely,

Agatha Bureau

Dear Ken:

I've been going to write you for sometime, first made calls to your Dad's last phone number here then finally learned they had moved to Arizona. Then got in touch with Hazel's daughter who gave me your address.

I've misplaced the materials I had on the Bureau background, plus the copies of information Sister Celine and your dad worked on which I had passed on to you..... which brings me to the purpose of my letter. Would you kindly forward me copies of whatever you have on the Bureau background? I'd appreciate it very much if you could do this soon. I'd be happy to reimburse you for any cost involved.

You may or may not have heard of the gathering of the Bureau clann in Sherbrooke, Quebec in July of 1978. Jean Bureau and her husband and Paul her brother of Escanaba and their spouses went. They said over 200 attended.... all professions and walks of life were represented. A Mass, part of the celebration, was concelebrated by five priests.... all Bureaus. There is a need for more information on our part of Bureau family to connect it with the orginal Louis Bureau of France. What you have may be helpful.

This coming September there is another gathering in France, I am considering going and of course would like to bring along whatever information we have. Some of the Canadian Bureau's are very familiar with tracing backgrounds. I can make copies of what you can send me, and send it on for tracing before the France gathering.

Hope all is well with you. Saw Jack a few weeks age, here in Marquette - St. John's church at a prayer group. He was going to get in touch with you and pass on my request for the material.
