Luckily for such a common surname the bulk of my ancestors settled in this small town in Crawford County, Missouri.

My 4th great grandfather Christopher Columbus Cook, Sr. migrated from Tennessee. He was a Captain in the Missouri Freeman's Regimant during the Civil War. His brother was a Lieutenant in the same company. Captain Cook owned two farms located in Cook Station on rich Meramec River bottomlands. One of his two homesteads is still standing today. He was a Mason and his sons were also. John L. Cook my 3rd great grandfather was also a member of the Ancient Order of United Woodsmen. Many descendants of the family were/are Masons.

Chris's parents are Rhoda Resign and David Cook. There is a monument for them in the Cook Cememtery but they are actually buried elsewhere...at this time I don't have the exact location of where they were buried.

There is a Cook Family Cemetery located in Cook Station and I can honestly say that I am related to all but two of the people buried there. The cemetery is still owned by the Cook Family. We are very proud of it. I actually visited it for the first time in my life the summer of 2003 when I scattered some of my Grandmother's ashes there.

When I was in Cook Station we were treated to a tour of the town, general store, old hotel and several other locations around there given to us by Kathi Kraus who is a direct descendant of the nearby Delcour family. The Delcour's took care of the phone service in Cook Station. The Pitt family ran the Postal Office. The old bank is still standing and the school house is there too. Unfortunately the General Store had to be closed last year. I am very grateful for the efforts of Kathi in maintaining and restoring many of the homes in Cook Station. We have contact with the family that is now living one of Capt. Cook's houses.

The other house (which was the home that my grandmother was born in) is now inhabitable after having a huge tree fall through it/into it many years ago. All the other outbuildings still stand though. The current owner has no interest in restoring any of the buildings and uses the property for hunting, storing hay and pasturing horses. But in seing the damage from the tree I will say that the house is beyond being restored due to the extent of the damage caused by the tree and the resulting damage caused by the roof being torn open, walls collapsed and the interior of the home being exposed to the elements.

I have lots of information on my Cook family but am always looking for more. If you descend from this line or have information on it I'm willing to exchange info.

In addition to my COOK research I am working on the following related lines: GRAVATT, SEWELL, GENTRY, and MC DANIEL. I am also in the process of gathering the proper documents so that I can join the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC). But due to the demands of being a full time mom, wife and working full time...this takes a backseat for the moment.
