The following
information was received from researcher Peggy Kearns in Raleigh, NC. Information was obtained from Archives but
to date I do not have collaborating documentation.
Land Transaction --
Feb. 27, 1769 Stephen Pitcock to
William Bolton Anson Co.,
NC sold 100 acres on Mountain Creek for
20 pounds. Border Jonathan Evans lower
line on Mountain Creek: Part of 200 acres granted April 20, 1763 to James
Poston who sold July 11, 1763 to John Cartwright who sold Aug. 10, 1765 to
Robert Poston. Oath 1769 ackowledged
Deeds, Book 7, page 247, Anson Co., NC
(NC Archives)
William Bolton found on 1777 Petition asking for Pee Dee
river to be dividing line for the County.
At that time his land was in Anson Co.
Son Benjamin was
executor of William's estate since William dies w/out a will. There was some
controversy in the settlement. Owen
Slaughter, Jr. was also administrator to William's estate.
(Colonial Records of
NC)
There is an indenture
made June 1789 between Benjamin Bolton & John Spurlin in Richmond Co. for parcel of land northeast of Pee Dee on
Mountain Creek.

Children of WILLIAM BOLTON are:
2. i. BENJAMIN2 BOLTON, SR., b. Bet. 1763 -
1764, Anson/Richmond County, North Carolina; d. February 12, 1843, Dallas
County, Alabama.
ii. JAMES BOLTON, d. Unknown.
iii. MARY BOLTON, d. Unknown.
iv. SARAH BOLTON, d. Unknown.
v. THOMAS BOLTON, d. Unknown.
Generation No. 2
2. BENJAMIN2 BOLTON, SR. (WILLIAM1)2,3,4,5,6 was born Bet. 1763 - 1764 in Anson/Richmond County,
North Carolina, and died February 12, 1843 in Dallas County, Alabama. He married RACHEL SLAUGHTER7, daughter of OWEN SLAUGHTER and ELIZABETH/MARY BOLTON. She was born
Abt. 1770 in Anson/Richmond County, North Carolina, and died Bef. 1843 in
Dallas County, Alabama.
Notes for BENJAMIN BOLTON, SR.:
In the Dallas County,
Alabama Deed Book A, page 344 is the following entry: 17 February 1821.
Benjamin Bolton's discharge and record of Revolutionary service. "I
have 9 children residing with me and depending on me for support: Rebecca, aged 12; Rachel, aged 22; Sally,
aged 18; Betsey, aged 16; Benjamin, aged 14; James, aged 13; Edwin, aged 12;
Owen, aged 10 and George aged 9."
In the 1820 census
index there is an entry for Benjamin Bolton in Dallas County, Alabama on page
320. However, in the other index book
that lists all the names by county, he is absent. There is no film for the 1820 census in the Hsv library.
In the 1840 census for
Pickens County there is an entry for Benjamin Bolton, aged 60-69, with 1m 5-9,
1 m 15-19, 1m 20-29, 1f 20-29, 1f 50-59 and no blacks. Is this Sr. living with children? The ages for him and his wife are close.
In the Alabama State
census of 1820, Benjamin lists the correct number of males over and under
twenty one, but gives three females over 21 (I can only account for his wife
and Rachel - perhaps his mother in law?) and one under 21, although his
daughters at that time included Sally, Betsey, and Rebecca. Perhaps two of them had died.
I'm not sure where I
got the reference that he's in the Rev. War, I can't find his name listed in
the Generations Family Tree listing.

Notes for GEORGE L. BOLTON:
George's tombstone
gives his birth year as 1868, but in the 1920 census he is listed as age 50,
making his birth year about 1870.
Before I realized that
Sarah Bolton Porter and George L. were brother and sister (which I figured out
because of the ages of George and his sister Nancy H. in both the 1920 and 1880
censuses), I had his mother's name as Mary, with no reference. I think I recall Mama or Aunt May telling me
that this was their mother's name, and I have a picture of someone named Mary
Bolton.
Mama also says that
her grandfather's name was Owen, so I'm totally confused.
