This is the genealogy home page of the children of José Manuel Burset Vélez and Florentina Flores López. It is the result of years of passionate research as well as generous information sharing from colleagues (too many to name each).

Our genealogy is very similar to that of many other Puerto Rican families. We have a branch of recent Spanish descent: the Burset -- which we have traced back to the late 1500's, even identifying our original French forefather who migrated to Cataluña in 1590 -- and the Masferrer/Masfarré. Both these families located in Humacao.

Most of our ancestors are of deep criollo roots: Flores, Delgado, Vélez del Rosario, López de Alicea, Rodríguez de Guzmán, Díaz de Ávila, etc. In fewer instances we have identified Canarians who arrived to the island in the early 18th century: Hernández de la Sierra, Rodríguez Castellanos.

Finally, through genealogical research we have extended our family beyond our already-known relatives. In the Sociedad Puertorriqueña de Genealogía meetings I have been acquainted with people I am related to through various lines. Through the internet I have met four Burset/Burcet cousins: three in Cataluña and one originally from Cuba; our great-grandparents were either brothers or cousins. I try to keep our communication up in their (and our original) Catalan tongue, with modest success.

I hope you enjoy perusing our page as much as I have enjoyed putting it together.

As they say in Catalan, una abraçada.
