It's been several years since I have diligently worked on my research but that is about to change. I am putting my nose back to the grindstone and am going through each one of my files and creating very detailed notes and formulating research questions that I will attempt to tackle and find the answer to. I welcome any comments or suggestions and am very willing to share the information I have. However, please remember that I am human and I do make mistakes so please be sure to check my work if you so choose to incorporate anything from my gathered information. I am now going to continue researching the Bills, Chartier, Clymer, Groat a/k/a Groot and DuTrieux a/k/a Truax portions of my family. It will be some time before I actually update the names, etc. on this page so please feel free to contact me for updates.

I have also added a link to a web page I have created. I have posted unknown family photos on that page. I hope there is a family member out there who has seen these photos before or may recognize the face as one in their family photos.

I'm interested in swapping old family photos via e-mail in an effort to create a photo history of my family as well as a written one so if you have any photos you would be willing to e-mail to me ... I'd love to have them.

  • John and Phebe Groat (28 KB)
    This is Phebe Josephine Groat (nee Bills) and her husband John Simon Groat. They are sitting in chairs made of animal horns from the Hammond Packing Company of Hammond, Indiana. One of John's sons worked at the Hammond Packing Company and made these chairs for his parents. I do know the whereabouts of one of the chairs but am uncertain as to where the other is.

    This is a photo of George Marshall Groat, William John Groat, Eva Mary Chartier-Groat, Dorothy Eva Groat-Jongsma and I believe the last person on the right is John Chartier, Jr. my great grandmother Eva's brother. It looks as though my grandmother wrote U. John across the man's image on the photo.
