Notes for John Pounds: SOURCE: Kennedy, Clarence Odell. Memphis, TN [deceased] "John Pound, born about 1772 Anson County, North Carolina, occupation: Farmer. He married Lavinia Rorie [Rorey], born Anson County, North Carolina. John died about 1852, Bedford County, Tennessee. Old letters written by John Pound to his son in Perry County, Alabama and John's son, William Pound, from Bedford County Tennessee to his brothers, Reuben and Isham Pounds, in Perry County, Alabama were placed in the Tennessee State Archives by Lillian Vaught of Houston, Texas and found by C. O. Kennedy. In 1830, there were 6 sons and 1 daughter in the household. In 1850, John [aged 78] and Lavinia were in Bedford County, Tennessee." [Note: It is more likely that the Lavinia in the 1850 census, who was 42 years old and therefore b. ca. 1808, was his daughter rather than his wife.
SOURCE: Anson Co., NC Land Records Land records dated 14 Nov 1807; 18 Jan 1809;14 Oct 1814; and 2 Dec 1821 record sales of land between/among several members of the Pounds family. The land transaction of 1821 would appear to indicate that John and Lavinia migrated westward to Bedford Co., TN after that transaction; however, Clarence O. Kennedy placed the births of their sons William Marion, Reuben, and Isham Zachariah as 1810, 1812, and 1814, respectively, in TN.
