Louis Keefer, who helped to build a barn for Samuel McCullough in 1869, and who is a relative of Mrs. J. L. Henshaw of Prospect, requests that the names of the boys that went out in Capt. Pillow's company, August 15, 1862, be published.
"They left Prospect in wagons on the evening of said date.They were R. M. Andreson (Anderson), George Beighley; Aaron Beighley; J. ? Dodds; Isaiah English; Harrison Garvey; John Heckert; Henry Lepley; Greer McCandless; Robert Moore; David Dodds; Daniel Keefer; William Stewart; Robert Young; Peter Neeley; John D. Roth, deceased; Newton White; Milton J. White; Lewis Keefer and Robert L. Gallagher, who died of measles and was buried at Windmill Point, Va., January 25, 1863.Lewis Keefer's address is Petrolia, R. D. 1.The boys had supper at Harmony, where other men joined the men from Prospect".

when 17 years of age, he enlisted August 30, 1862, at Middle Lancaster, Pa., as a private in Co. F, 137th Pa. Vol.Inf., and after serving nine months was discharged at Harrisburg, Pa., and re enlisted February 15, 1865, at Pittsburg, in Co. E., 112th H. Art.; he took a prominent part in the battles of Cold Harbor, all through the siege of Petersburg, and Chapin's Farm; he was detailed to drive the ambulance eleven months; was wounded in right arm by gunshot in June, 1864 at Petersburg, Va., and was confined in hospital three months on account of wound; he received his honorable discharge at City Point, Va., at close of the war. His maternal grandfather, Abraham Shaner, served in the war of 1812.Mr. Beighley was married in Butler County, Pa., May 1, 1866, to Matilda Moyer, born in that county in 1847; her father, Samuel Moyer, is yet living, but her mother, Julia Ann (Rice), is deceased; nine children have been born to the union in the order named: Ida Almina, Elsie Ellen, Samuel Emery, Julia Ann Catherine, deceased, Howard Pierce, Hosea Wilford, Plummer Hershel, Nora Leila and Darley May.Conrade Beighley draws a small pension, is a carpenter, and his address is Butler, Pa." He belonged to the United Presbyterian Church.
Returning to his home in Butler county, after the civil war, helearned the carpenter's trade, and worked in New Castle, Lawrencecounty, until 1876. In that year he located in the Bullion oil field,and has since been connected with the oil producing interests ofwestern Pennsylvania. In 1880 he came to Butler, and is nowsuperintendent of rig building for Thomas W. Phillips. He is a memberof the United Presbyterian church, and in politics, he is aRepublican.
A short biography has been found in "Presidents, Soldiers, Statesmen",Volume 1, published by Hardesty in 1898 on Aaron Beighley......"Wasborn in Butler County, Pa., February 25, 1844; his father, MichaelBeighley, is yet living, as is his mother who was born in 1815, hermaiden name was Shaner; when 17 years of age, he enlisted August 30,1862, at Middle Lancaster, Pa., as a private in Co. Aaron Beighley, son of Michael and Catherine Beighley, was born inLancaster Township, Butler County, February 25, 1844. He was reared onhis father's farm and received a common school education. In August,1862, he enlisted in Company F, One Hundred and Thirty-seventhPennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, was mustered into service atPittsburgh, and served until June 1, 1863, when he was honorablydischarged. On February 15, 1864, he reenlisted in Company F, OneHundred and Twelfth Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, and went with hisregiment to Georgetown Camp, thence to Fort Ethan Allen, Cold Harbor,City Point, Weldon Railroad, Chapman's Farm and Petersburg, and wasdischarged at Philadelphia, January 29, 1866. Returning to ButlerCounty he learned the carpenter's trade and worked in New Castle,Pennsylvania, until 1876. In that year he located in Bullion Oil Fieldand has been in the oil producing business for years. In 1883 he cameto Butler, Pennsylvania, and was superin-tendent of rig building forthe T. W. Phillips Gas & Oil Company. He was married in April, 1867,to Miss Matilda Moyer, a daughter of Samuel Moyer, of LancasterTownship, Butler County. Mrs. Beigh-ley was born in 1848. Mr. Beighleydied August 27, 1921, and is buried in Rose Hill Cemetery, Butler,Pennsylvania. Mr. Beighley was a Republican and a member of the UnitedPresbyterian Church, of which he was trustee for many years. To thisunion nine children were born: (1) Ida Elmina, married Richard Hughes,foreman with the Standard Plate Glass Company, Butler; (2) ElsieEllen, married George M. Campbell. He was a salesman for the MulfordDrug Company and is now deceased. His widow resides in Butler; (3)Emory Samuel, a contractor, married Lulah J. Alexander, Butler; (4)How-ard Percy, died in 1916, and is buried in Rose Hill Cemetery,Butler; (5) Annie, died in infancy, buried at Middle Lancaster,Pennsylvania; (6) H. W., the subject of this sketch; (7) Plummer H.,born Septem-ber 12, 1883, graduate of Butler High School in 1902,Duff's Business College, Pittsburgh, in 1904; was with the GuarantyTrust Company of Butler for eight years and with the Standard SteelCar shops as pay roll clerk for twelve years, now in the citytreasurer's office; (8) Nora Eleila, married H. R. DeWolf, wholesalepaper dealer, Indian-apolis, Indiana; and (9) Darlie May, married W.Kramer O'Brien, a salesman with the Mulford Drug Company, lives inButler.
