The Burroughs Family of Greensboro, AlabamaUpdated March 24, 2007
Looking for information on the Burroughs family of greensboro, Alabama. The family headed by the Rev. William Burroughs and his wife Mary, migrated to the area in about 1868.ThereWilliam Burroughs purchases about three hundred and twenty acres of land from a John Clemments. It was here, in Greensboro that William prospered as a farmer and as a Minister of God. William raised his five sons and one daughter in Greensboro, Alabama. Their names were: Caleb, Cornelius, Stephen, Emmanuel, William Jr., and Amy. Their son Stephen Burroughs,my great grandfather, who like his father and brothers, was a farmer. Due to their skill at farming,Black smithing, and leadership, they help to establish, what at one time, by the locals, what was know as "Burroughs Town". Although it was never an official naming, it was understood where Burroughs town was. The Burroughs family collectively at one time owned between two and three thousand acres of land in Greensboro, Hale County Alabama. Family history credits, the Rev. William Burroughs as being the founder of the Baysprings Church. His sons are credited as being the founders of the Baysprings School and Masonic lounge. What I am trying to do here is encourage other members of the Burroughs family, to bring forth your stories about your branch of the family. Let's tell our story collectively. We all haveinformation on our families. It can be stories, pictures, birth, marriage, and death records, etc. So, lets put it together and present it to future generations. Thanks and let's work together.
