My ggg-grandfather Rev. Wilson J. Kierce was born in 1810 in Orangeburg, South Carolina to John and Rebecca Kierce. His family migrated to Emanuel County, Georgia where he later married Bedy Jane Curl in 1829. They moved to Baker County, Georgia in 1842 and moved to Coffee County, Alabama in 1855. They moved to Covington County, Alabama sometime before the Civil War. His 3 sons served in the Confederate States Army during the Civil War. George Kierce and Daniel Kierce enlisted in the 42nd Alabama Infantry Co. E. My gg-grandfather Henry Kierce enlisted in the 63rd Alabama Infantry Co. C. George Kierce and Daniel Kierce were captured and taken prisoner during the Seige of Vicksburg on July 4, 1863. Henry Kierce was captured and taken prisoner at Fort Blakely, Alabama on April 9, 1864 and sent to Ship Island in Mississippi where he was eventually parolled after the close of the war in 1865. George Kierce was wounded at Vicksburg and discharged in September 29, 1863 due to disability. He later became Captain of the Covington County Volunteer Militia back in Alabama. Rev. Wilson J. Kierce was pastor of Florala Baptist Church and died in May 1886. His sons Rev. Henry Kierce, Rev. Berrien Kierce and Rev. George W. Kierce were baptist preachers in Florida and Alabama. My grandfather Mims Moses Kierce came to Texas in 1929 when he joined the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. My Paternal Grandmother's Lehman family immigrated to Texas from Laubnitz, Prussia on November 2, 1846 on the ship "Louise" from Bremen to Galveston, Texas, settling in Bastrop County, Texas. My grandmother's father Martin Lehman was Postmaster of the town which was then called Lehmannville. Her mother Anna Pankau immigrated to Texas with her parents at the age of 16 on January 29, 1883 on the ship "America" from Gross-Zirkwitz, Germany and settled in Seguin in Guadalupe County, Texas. They are buried in St. Joseph Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas. My mother's Reinders family immigrated to the United States from Germany on July 20, 1872 on the ship "Parthia" from the Ports of Liverpool and Queenston and settled in Mercer County, Ohio. My gg-grandfather Johann Reinders came to Texas around 1900 and settled in Falls County, Texas near Westphalia. His wife Maria Brunswick was born in Ohio in 1862. Her father Andreas Brunswick immigrated from Germany on June 7, 1853 on the ship "Bessel" from Bremen to Baltimore. They are buried in St. Mary's Cemetery in Westphalia, Texas. My maternal Grandfather's mother Annie Martha Dach was born in High Hill, Texas in 1894. Her father Frank Dach immigrated from Austria to Texas on October 1, 1873 on the ship "Strassburg" to New Orleans. Her mother Maria Haas was born in Bolten, Moravia, Austria and immigrated with her family to Texas in 1887. They are all buried in St. Michael's Cemetery in Burlington, Milam County, Texas. My Maternal Grandmother's Seidl family immigrated to Texas from Bohemia on December 20, 1871 on the Ship "Erna" and first settled in Frelsburg in Colorado County, Texas. Around 1880 they moved to Milam County and settled in the town of Bushdale near Rockdale. They are all buried in the Bushdale Cemetery near Rockdale in Milam County, Texas. My Maternal Great-Grandmother's Seelke family immigrated to Texas on December 29, 1870 on the ship "Mercer" from Mecklenburg-Streltiz, Germany and settled in Lexington in Lee County, Texas. They are buried in Lexington Cemetery. |
