2. GEORGE² TURNER (CHARLES¹)¹ was born in Albemarle Co., Va., and died May 4, 1841 in Marion Co., Mo.. He married ANNA MAUPIN¹ February 14, 1791 in ALBEMARLE CO., VA.¹, daughter of GABRIEL MAUPIN and ANNA BALLARD. She died July 8, 1834 in Marion Co., Mo..

Information received January, 1983: I received a letter from Mrs. M.H. Gentry, whose husband is a descendant of Charles Turner, Jr., another branch of the Turner family, giving the following information:
"In 1788 Charles Turner bought from Solomon Ballou nearly 200 acres lying to the Northwest of Ivy Depot. He died in 1789. His wife's name was Mary Ann and his children were Robert, George, Reuben, William, Matthew. Keziah, Mary, and Judith. George in 1791 married Ann, daughter of Gabriel and Ann Maupin. A number of the children sold their land and moved to Pendleton Co., Ky. This land lay at the foot of Turner's Mountain. Taken from the "History of Albemarle Co., Va."

She was born in PROBABLY ALBEMARLE CO., VA., and died May 21, 1833 in QUINCY, ADAMS CO., ILL..

AN OLD FAMILY TRADITION IS THAT HE WAS A CHRISTIAN PREACHER. BUT ACCORDING TO THE BEAR CREEK CHURCH RECORDS HE MAY HAVE BEEN A BAPTIST. THE RECORDS SAY HE WENT INTO THE CHURCH BY BAPTISM ON JULY 4, 1833 AND DISMISSED BY LETTER JANUARY 4, 1835. THE FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH IN QUINCY, ILL. WAS ORGANIZED IN HIS HOME JULY OF 1835 AT 3RD AND VERMONT ST. ACCORDING TO EARLY CHURCH HISTORY OF QUINCY. SOME HAVE SAID HE HAS PREACHED AT EDINA, MO. (LUTHER TURNER, III, 1907-?)
