There are a couple Spartanburg Co., SC possibilities for her parentage according to the 1820 census:

1820 GROGAN HENRY Spartanburg County SC 272 220010 21110         <b bef 1775

1820 GROGAN THOMAS Spartanburg County SC 272 310010 21010      <b bet 1775-1794

I need to obtain the 1820 Greenville census to see about that area. I suspect her father was John, based on 
the name of her youngest son.

My husband also descends from the GROGANs in the area. According to the death certificate of Alice, 
Eliza GROGAN m. William FREEMAN and had dau Mary Alice "Alice" FREEMAN (1861 SC – 1925 
Greenwood, SC).

I believe this is probably Eliza in the 1850 Greenville Co., census, with the name Alice running in the 
family to this day.:
