William SCALES was b. 1821 Ireland. He owned land in Garafraxa West, Wellington Co., ONT from 1867 to 1874. He appears in the 1871 census for there as well. The next I know of the family is that son, Joseph, went to the US in 1878. I believe William is the same as "W. SCALES' who d. in 1890 Chippewa, Co., Michigan. He is buried in McKee Cem, Garafraxa East, Dufferin Co., ONT, along with his wife and 2 sons who died young. I don't know when/how he went to Canada from Ireland and have not been able to find him on any cd-roms about immigration.
