Hello Everyone! I have been labeled among my family as the “GENEALOGY NUT.” I actually became interested in tracing the ancestry many years ago, but with raising a family, I never had the time to give it the attention it deserved. I packed it away for another time. Well, about 5 years ago, the bug bit me again. Although time is still an issue, I do manage to keep up. When I think back on how this began to unravel, I can’t help but think it was nothing short of a miracle or “divine intervention!” I would spend hours surfing genealogy message boards and web sites; posting messages and registering surnames.I had registered the surnames: Riley, Quinn and Tynan on the Illinois surname registry. I thought maybe if I listed Tynan I may finda link to the Quinns. It worked! I received an e-mail from a Janet Tynan Dempsey, who was interested in my Quinn/Tynan connection. (Grandma Riley’s sister married Joe Tynan).I was sure this wasn’t a link. I politely responded and figured that was the end of it...WRONG! It was indeed a link.Janet’s great grandfather was Joseph Tynan’s brother. One of my most vivid and tearful moments was finding our Great Grandmother, Johanna Minehan Quinn. Grandma Riley had NO memory of her, and to my knowledge didn’t even know her first name. Oh! How I wish I could share this with her now! The search has been one of excitement, frustration, disappointment, and mystery.I have a longing to understand what our ancestors were like and how they lived; what made them laugh, etc.PLEASE share any stories you may remember, I can't tell you how often a story triggered a memory that led me in the right direction and BINGO...I'd hit paydirt. The following is a work in progress. It's nowhere near completion. However, I'm off to a good start. I know not everyone shares my passion for genealogy, but I hope you will find the information interesting and fun as you learn just a little bit about our ancestors. The search continues..... PLEASE NOTE:You will find a link below for a Family Group Sheet(PDF Format). If you'd like me to include your family information, print a copy, complete the form, return it to me, and I'll include the data. ______________________________________________________________ Researching in Cook County Illinois - Byrne, Cahill, Minehan, Riley , Quinn & Wilson Researching in Clinton & Franklin County New York - Clark, Downs, Duffy & Ward Researching in Livingston County, Michigan - Brophy, Fay, Fahey, Riley Researching in St. Louis County, Minnesota: Muccilli Researching inHancock County, Ohio -Bristol, Cole, VanScoit &Wilson Researching in County Cavan, Ireland- Clark, Riley Researching in County Tyrone, Ireland - Duffy Researching in County Queens, Ireland (currently known as County Laois) - Fay, Fahey Researching in County Donegal, Ireland - Byrne, Boyle Researching in Albany & Rensselaur County New York - Minehan, Quinn | |
