This information is from Brad Behrens:

After Stephen Hammond died Nov. 14, 1855, Mary moved back to Ohio about a year later and married Thomas McKibbon in 1859 in Vinton Co., OH. He mistreated her and she left or was compelled to leave in 1863. She received a pension under the name Mary McKibbon, as a dependent mother of George Hammond, who died in the line of duty... of fever.... in Jacksonville, FL Feb. 12, 1864 at age 19.
