Generation No. 1

1. DEMPSEY¹ KEY was born Bet. 1805 - 1809 in South Carolina, and died Bet. 1849 - 1907. He married MARY ANN ISOM 1835 in Shelby county, Tennessee, daughter of JONATHAN ISOM and MARTHA MILES. She was born December 11, 1820, and died 1857 in Iowa.

He never owned land in Carroll Co., MO. but came there with his wife's
parents in 1840 from Shelby Co., TN. They had five sons in 1840. Demsey
KEY was a farm laborer for John STREET from 1841 to 1845. In 1845 he
was a charter member of "Our Little Flock" Baptist church in Leslie TWP,
east of Mandeville, MO. By 1856? he was in Ray Co., MO. -Demsey KEY
deserted his family before 1857 probably returned to TN. from Mo. In
1857 Mary Ann and 5 sons died of diphtheria within a two week time
period.
Dempsey Key may have went to Iowa when he deserted his family.
Have found land records of Dempsey Key in Carroll county, Missouri. (found-5-1-1998)

-Mary Ann ISOMKEYdiphtheria and lost 5 sons in 2 weeks from
Diptheria.
The Keys are listed in the 1840 Census, Shelby Co. Tenn.--5 sons under
5. in the 1850 census they were living in Ray Co. Mo.
Mary Ann and the five children were buried on the family plot- later a
new land owner broke the stones and incorporated them into the
foundation of his new house, and destroyed the burial ground.
