A member of the San Juan Lions Club, he served as President in 1953. As Governor of District 51 in the Lions Club, in 1957, he coined the slogan: "El que no vive para servir no sirve para vivir." Would often start meetings with the Prayer of St. Francis Assisi. He was International Director of the Lions Club in 1967, and then Good Will Ambassador. 50 years as a Lion, San Juan Lions Club. Sept 1997. Had dinner in his honor. A "semblanza" was published in the bulletin of the San Juan Lions Club.
He was in the Board of Directors of the Universidad Sagrado Corazón for 20 years. He was a prominent figure in the Puerto Rico Chamber of Commerce and has been the only person to receive the title of Director Emeritus.
Murió en su casa en Santurce, PR trás un infarto cerebral que le dió el 5 de febrero, 2001. Murió tranquilo. Se le celebró una Misa en la iglesia Stella Maris, Padre Rivas. Se le veló en el Puerto Rico Memorial. En su sepelio Carmencita Garriga recitó el poema de José Martí "La Rosa Blanca" y todos nos unimos a ella en lágrimas. Estas palabras resumían su filosofía. Trataba a todos igualmente, sin importarle su raza o status social. Leaquina Javier, que lo cuidaba, habló de una manera muy conmovedora.

CAMUÑAS-MONGE-Jorge. Died in Santurce, PR, March 9, 2001. Born February 21, 1915. Graduate of the University of Puerto Rico, a CPA, he was Vice President of Corona Brewing Corp., where he worked from 1940-1982. He was President of the San Juan Lions Club, Governor of Lions District 51 and International Director of this organization (1961 - 1963). He served for many years in The Chamber of Commerce and was named Director Emeritus. He is survived by his wife Alida Muniz de Camuñas and a son, Jorge Camuñas, MD. He will be viewed at Puerto Rico Memorial today. Family requests donations to Stella Maris Church or Manuel Fernandez Juncos Children's Home in San Juan in lieu of flowers.
