Notes for Valeriana Monge-Agosto: A real grandmother! The BEST! Lived in San Juan at Calle San Sebastián # 9 until after death of Manuel Lorenzo, then moved to Santurce, about 1928 while dad was in high school, then lived in Calle Rosario behind the Municipal Hospital buildings. Worked ironing clothes. They rented the San Juan house for income. Would read the Bible daily, always prayed to the Sacred Heart and recited the Rosary, yet would seldom go to church. Cared for me when my parents were away. Got me interested in reading, stamp collecting. Lived in Barrio Obrero while I was a kid, Calle Julio Vizcarrondo, near the Farmacia Imperial, where David Hurst worked, and near her brother (or nephew?) Luis Monge, who lived across the street. Very independent, even when infirm. Liked to go everywhere by bus and would ask people to identify the bus route and streets when she could no longer see them well. Had a clear head until after an operation to fix broken hip, about 1978. Gradual weakening, and dementia, developed decubitus ulcers. Was cared for at home. Died in February 1986 after a brief stay in Clínica Font, Cayey.
