5. JOHN² MCGEORGE (JOHN¹) was born 1 July 1790 in Lochrutton KKD Sct, and died 9 June 1869 in Kirkpatrick Durham KKD Sct. He married (1) CATHERINE MCMORRINE Abt. 1813. She was born Abt. 1785, and died 30 April 1817 in Kirkpatrick Durham KKD Sct. He married (2) JANET JOHNSTON Abt. 1818 in Kirkpatrick Durham?. She was born Abt. 1800 in Ruthwell DFS Sct, and died 7 January 1886 in Kirkpatrick Durham KKD Sct.

Notes for JOHN MCGEORGE:
John was a veterinary surgeon according to the census and birth death and marriage certificates of the family. I doubt whether he had any formal training although in the 1851 census he had written veterinary surgeon, Vet Sch Ed. The Veterinary School at Edinburgh did check their lists 1794-1866 but there were no McGeorges.
John and his family lived in Durham Street, Kirkpatrick Durham Village in the parish of Kirkpatrick Durham, KKD Scotland. His son John was a blacksmith and lived close to his father in Durham Street.
John married twice, first to Catherine McMorrine who died in 1817 and secondly to Janet Johnston. They are all buried in the Kirkpatrick Durham churchyard

In the census and on most of John's childrens' marriage etc certificates John is described as a veterinary surgeon. I did write to the Veterinary Library, Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, Summerhall Edinburgh EH9 1QH in 1990 asking if they had any record of John McGeorge but their reply was:
"I regret that we do not have an organised archive collection and records of students in the last century are very scanty
I have looked at the Register of the Members of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons 1794-1866 and regret that the name McGeorge does not occur"
